Community Beer Company created a call for Dallas based visual artists to design a limited-edition label for Texas Lager to be distributed during March and April 2020 to promote Dallas Arts Month 2020. Label designs related to the following prompt: How do you describe your Dallas community?
In alignment with their initiative, “For the Greater Good,” Community Beer Company (CBC) has created a new and innovative program aimed at supporting local Dallas artists. As a community partner, CBC wishes to support the value of the Dallas arts ecosystem helping to nourish the creative and innovative energy of Dallas artists. CBC will print and distribute three to four variable labels of their Texas Lager created by local Dallas artists to promote Dallas arts, artists, and Dallas Arts Month 2020.
The inspiration for how I would describe my community:
I like beer, art and especially together. This is a fun project where I could combine one of my favorite breweries with community groups like Our City, Our Future and Mother’s Against Police Brutality.
The inspiration for my can design is Dignity, Respect, and Justice for all. Inspired from a poster I created with Mothers Against Police Brutality for their youth speak out event Remembering Clinton Allen. Where all skill-levels were invited to a hands-on cathartic print workshop because art is for everyone.
Dallas Arts Month is the perfect month to explore the arts and activate radical imagination. My work as an artist is to visualize and dream artistic actionable realities in Dallas. Alongside policy influencers and organizers working with Our City, Our Future we created a campaign with a focus on youth and trans youth.
Art helps us imagine beyond youth citations and teen curfews and what if instead we had 24-hour recreation centers with art and technology access?
I hope with my design I can inspire people to get out and share a beverage and imagine what does dignity looks like for La Bajada? .
What does respect look like for black trans women and what does justice look like for Clinton Allen? .
